Hoof Balance and its effects

Following on from my post last week about conformation, this picture shows some different lower leg/hoof conformation. There is a saying ‘ No Hoof, No horse’ which in my mind is 100% but lets delve deeper into that.

Think about yourself and how you walk, if your feet hurt or are sore it can make you walk differently. Over time this can make your knees or ankles sore because your walking pattern has changed and you may be using different muscles or putting additional strain on your tendons and ligaments. This can also have a knock on effect on your hips and lower back and even right up to your shoulders… all from a little discomfort in your foot! This is the same for your horse and even your dog.

Next time you look at your horse (or dog!) have a look at their feet, have a look at their shape and how their lower limb is angled.

Massage and chiropractic adjustments can work wonders on poor posture and gait defects. How can you help your horse be its best?
